‘Grease’ Fan Theory Changes How You View The Entire Film

(PCM) A new fan theory surrounding the cult-hit film “Grease” has popped up on Reddit and everyone is losing their minds. The new theory suggests that our beloved Sandy Duncan was actually dead the entire time. No “Summer Nights” or “Hand-Jive”, as the theory suggests that the entire story line for the film takes place inside Sandy’s head.

The Reddit post goes on to explain that in the song “Summer Nights” Danny claims that he met Sandy on a beach singing “I saved her life, she nearly drowned”, however the theory claims that Danny actually never rescued Sandy at all and that she ended up drowning in the ocean. As she was dying she was dreaming that she had fallen in love with the hunky Danny who she had previously seen on the beach.

This theory explains the ending of the film where it appears that Danny and Sandy are driving his car up into the clouds, however it is actually Sandy flying off into heaven. Still seems a little far-fetched to us, being huge fans of the film, but I guess it could make some sense if you look at it that way. The theory also states that the last line of “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee (Reprise)” is “Goodbye to Sandra Dee.” Food for thought for sure!

The post goes on to say that the ending of the film is just too perfect. “Danny and Sandy are back together despite everything, Rizzo SUDDENLY isn’t pregnant AND Kenickie suddenly decides that he actually loves her, the geeky kid gets onto the sports team, EVERYTHING is suddenly okay, just the way that sweet, innocent Sandy would have wanted it to be.”

Another fan theory suggests that it was actually Danny who died during the beach rescue attempt and the film is based upon how he would have imagined the scenario to unfold. He even made up the name “Sandy” because they died together on the beach. That is definitely an even darker take on the story. We prefer to look at “Grease” as a happy high school love story, how about you?
