Netflix Sues Musical Co-Creators of Unofficial Bridgerton MusicalOn Friday, July 29th Netflix filed a lawsuit against Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, musical composers, who Netflix is suing for holding the Unofficial Bridgerton Musical Album Live in Concert at the Kennedy Center. Netflix is claiming copyright and trademark infringement as well as claiming the pair were misrepresenting that they were using the Bridgerton trademark with permission. Barlow and Bear originally started on TikTok, Barlow singing ‘Daphne’s Song’ which is now called an ‘Ocean Away’ and has over 2.4 million views. Since then the pair created an album with over 15 original songs and won a Grammy for best musical theater album. They are the youngest winners and nominees ever to win in this category at only 20 and 23. Both have not commented on the lawsuit as of yet. |
1 Million Subscribers Lost by NetflixAccording to the latest financial reports, Netflix has lost approximately 1 million subscribers in quarter 2 of 2022. This is following the 200,000 subscriber loss in the first quarter. Netflix, a staple of the streaming media industry, doesn’t have other revenue streams to fall back on. Its current market shares are down almost 65% this year. So what will Netflix do? The company has already laid off over 200 full- and part-time employees this year. Netflix announced additional layoffs are to be expected, and earlier this year, they stated they would be cracking down on password sharing. |
Ana de Armas Transforms Into Marilyn Monroe in Netflix’s BlondeBased on the novel of the same name that dove into the myths and marvels of the iconic Hollywood star, Blonde is heading to Netflix this September. Directed by Andrew Dominik(Chopper), the film follows the star-studded but tragic life of the late Marilyn Monroe who is still regarded as one of the most recognizable bombshells in American history. Monroe starred in many films throughout the 50s and 60s including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like It Hot, and more. Ana de Armas, known for action films No Time To Die, Blade Runner 2049, and others, is now taking on the challenging role. She has already delivered on the resemblance factor based on the teaser alone. Though the film’s release is months away, critics and fans alike are already astounded by de Armas’s replication of Monroe’s iconic style and the moments that simultaneously brought her to fame and spiraled her into a state of misery. Tommy Chong is Reprising his Role in That 90s ShowWith our ever-increasing obsession with nostalgia, it was only a matter of time before nostalgic comedy That 70s Show received a spinoff. Fans were delighted to hear that they’d be traveling back to Wisconsin to revisit the old crew, but this time in the 90s. Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp are returning to play Red and Kitty, and it’s just been announced that Tommy Chong will return to play Leo. Chong let the news out in an interview with Dark Mark on Youtube. Also returning are Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Topher Grace, and Laura Prepon. Unfortunately, Danny Masterson is not returning due to his legal issues. Some new cast members and our favorite characters have grown up and started families since we last saw them. Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos have all been added to the new cast. There’s no release date for That 90s Show but it’s likely to arrive on Netflix later this year |
Stranger Things’ Final Season Breaks Netflix’s Most-Watched Record
After a 3 year hiatus, fans of the 80s sci-fi horror series Stranger Things are ready to join Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Max, and Eleven back into the mysterious and dangerous land of the Upside Down. The Duffer Brothers who created the iconic series announced that like many recent Netflix finales, the final season would be split into two parts. Season 4 volume 1 premiered on May 27th, 2022, and broke the record for the most-watched premiere on Netflix which previously belonged to period drama Bridgerton. According to Netflix statistics, the beginning of the end of this culturally catastrophic series was viewed for 287 million hours. The platform is anticipating even more viewership when the second half of the final season releases on July 1st of this year. The series also took the number 3 spot in Netflix’s top titles and was plastered across the home page the day of its premiere. |
