Sandman Season 2 is Finally Greenlit

November 2, 2022 — Deadline reports Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series on Netflix is renewed for season 2. In news that seemed as if it should have been announced during its explosive season 1 viewership, it follows a leak made on Twitter in recent days. During Sandman’s initial release on Netflix, viewership blew up week after week. Week one, 70 million hours. In week two it doubled to 127 million and finally cooled off to 77 million in week three. Even week four’s 58 million hours were still astronomical for any streaming show.

While these numbers are strong, industry profit calculations place it on the bubble in justifying a second season as it relates to cost. Will the showrunners and producers be mindful of this in season 2 or will another delay after it airs leave its fate in limbo? For now, fans of Sandman can breathe a sigh of relief at receiving a second season.

Henry Cavill Leaves Witcher

It’s stunning to think this is not fake news but Henry Cavill is leaving Netflix’s runaway hit, The Witcher. For those who love Henry in the Role of Geralt of Rivia, there is a silver lining. He’s leaving after The Witcher season three (2023).

Who’s Replacing Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia?

The news of Henry Cavill’s replacement on The Witcher came from Netflix in a company blog post. The new Geralt of Rivia on Netflix’s The Witcher will be Liam Hemsworth who is quoted, “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Fans and critics have speculated on why Cavill is leaving The Witcher. Some think it’s due to his recent return to the DCU as Superman. Many more speculate it is due to his vocal complaints towards Netflix’s The Witcher showrunners disdain for The Witcher source material. Meanwhile, Cavill has taken the high road upon exit, “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4.”
