When you think of futuristic tech, what comes to mind? For most people, it’s robots that act like humans but faster and smarter. Hypothetically, AI would power the robots if this vision became true.

 AI has already begun reshaping industries, from social media and big tech to generative art and even article writing.

 In this article, we will look at the recent advancements in AI and the potential future capabilities of the technology. But before we get started, here is a brief description of AI and what it is used for:

AI is a set of algorithms used to analyze, process and compute large amounts of data to reach the desired outcome. AI can compute, detect patterns and create conclusions from datasets too fast for humans to comprehend.

 For example, an AI algorithm could be written to collect data from around the internet on “The best countries to visit in December” and then create a written article based on all the collected data.

The algorithms used by social media companies are data management systems used to collect and organize data and then suggest the most appropriate outcome. The AI algorithms track everything from time spent interacting with another user’s content to your physical location. Without AI, gathering and organizing this data for Meta’s 2.1 Billion users, for example, would be impossible.

More recently, Meta has begun developing an array of tools and web applications to build its vision of an open metaverse. One of these tools is “No Language Left Behind”, an automated translation tool for video calls. Powered by AI, this innovative tool allows two individuals to communicate while speaking two different languages verbally.

 Voice assistant is software which carries out tasks via voice commands. The most popular voice assistants, such as Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri, make it easier to carry out tasks, such as making a call, playing a song, or searching Google. Assuming you have the correct setup, voice assistant can even switch off lights at your home!

 AI-powered voice assistants are trained to recognise the user’s command and direct it to the desired outcome. It is the immense level of data processing capabilities that makes this possible.

 It is projected the number of voice assistants in use worldwide will double from 2020 – 2024, from 4.2 to 8.4 billion units. Undoubtedly, the smart assistant is one of the most popular AI-based technologies in the world today.

 Generative Art

Over the past couple of months, apps like DALLE-E 2 have become exceptionally popular. More recently, AI-generated art has begun to make headlines. Generative art apps allow users to input a text-based command, and the AI-powered app will return perfect images.

This technology is novel, and it is still unknown how far it will go. However, it is already seeing widespread adoption by technology companies, game creators and the wider public.

 Writing

Like generative art has exploded in popularity, AI-generated writing also has. It works similarly to generative art in that the user will input prompts into an app, and the app will return AI-generated content.

Similarly to generative art, this is a powerful tool when used correctly. Users can input any prompts into the app, and AI will crawl through databases to compute information and then return clearly and understandable writing.

What Does It Mean To real Humans?

 With AI’s astounding technological advancements, everybody will soon be out of their jobs, right? Not necessarily.

 AI can do something humans cannot – compute extreme amounts of data and draw conclusions. However, AI is not sentient. It is algorithmically based. AI can only regurgitate data that it has processed. It lacks the ability humans have to think outside of the box.

AI does not have emotions or ethics; as much as it is trained to behave like humans, it is always limited to its algorithms. Nevertheless, the advancements we have seen in AI over the past decade are astounding. Who knows what its future capabilities might be? But for now, AI is a fantastic tool that humans can use to manage and draw conclusions from large datasets in a short time.
