Talk This Way Podcast [E17]: Bluphoria

Talk This Way Podcast

The alt-rock upstarts released their debut album last month

On the latest episode of the Talk This Way Podcast, up-and-coming alternative rock outfit Bluphoria joins the show to chat about their self-titled debut album, upcoming tour plans, and more.

The band is comprised of Reign LaFreniere (23-year-old lead vocalist and lead guitarist), Dakota Landrum (20-year-old rhythm guitarist and background vocalist), Rex Wolf (22-year-old bassist and background vocalist), and Dani Janae (21-year-old drummer and background vocalist).

Last month, Bluphoria released their highly anticipated first LP. It spawned four solid singles – “Walk Through the Fire,” “Set Me Up,” “Ain’t Got Me,” and “Columbia.” The band moved to Nashville and immersed themselves in the city while making the record.

Before making the album, the band made the move to Nashville from the West Coast.

“I feel like when we can down here the first time, we spent a couple of days before we went into the studio just going out and seeing what everybody’s like, meeting all these new people,” guitarist Dakota Landrum said. “I think coming to a city that’s full of musicians and meeting these really lovely people that wanted to see us succeed, and help us in the studio later on, that was huge part of what made this sound like specifically with this record. I feel like if we did it in California..it’s [the album] pretty poppy, but it would sound more West Coast, I think.”

The album was helmed by 11-time GRAMMY®-nominated producer Mark Needham (Fleetwood Mac, The Killers, The 1975).

“He was lovely, really,” drummer Dani Janae recalls of Needham. “He’s just the kind of person who’s been doing this for so long that he could produce a whole record in his sleep, but he was really, really kind and just very humble. We kept reminding him about how much of a legend he was and how stoked we were to be there, but he would just say, ‘I’m just a normal person, we’re just here to have fun.’ He was lovely, he was super kind. He walked us through the whole thing since he knew we were kind of wet behind the ears, first time in a really professional studio setting. Couldn’t have asked for a better first-time studio experience than with Mark.”

To support the record, Bluphoria are in the midst of planning a string of headlining shows around the country. For now, the band has a performance scheduled for July 16 at The East Room in Nashville. Tickets are available now HERE. The band’s debut LP is available now on all major streaming services HERE.
