The Pixies Pack Pure Energy Into Philadelphia Tour Stop!

The Pixies returned to Philadelphia for a packed show at The Met, as part of their world tour in support of their latest album, Doggerel. The album, released on September 30, 2022, by BMG Rights Management, was produced by Tom Dalgety and the band’s Philly performance featured a variety of tracks off Doggerel including “Nomatterday”, “The Lord Has Come Back Today”, “Haunted House” and “Dregs of the Wine”. Doggerel marked an important milestone for the band, as it was their fourth album since their reunion in 2004, matching the number of albums they released during their original run from 1986 to 1993.

The legendary alternative rock band delivered a dynamic performance that spanned their entire career, from their debut EP Come On Pilgrim to their newest songs. The crowd was treated to a barrage of hits, such as both versions of “Wave of Mutilation”, “Gouge Away”, “Monkey Gone To Heaven”, “Here Comes Your Man”, “Mr. Grieves” and “Bone Machine”, as well as some deep cuts and rarities, such as “Cactus”, “Caribou”, and “Death Horizon”.

The band also treated us to two cover songs during their 30 set which included “Head On” from The Jesus and Mary Chain and “Winterlong” by Neil Young.

The band sounded tight and energetic, with frontman Black Francis unleashing his trademark vocals, guitarist Joey Santiago shredding his solos, drummer David Lovering pounding his kit, and bassist Paz Lenchantin adding her harmonies to complete the package.

What has always been truly unique about attending a Pixies concert is that they are one of the few bands that require almost no crowd banter or interaction. The music does and always will speak for itself, and we find ourselves mesmerized and lost in the Pixies flawless on-stage performance.

The Pixies proved once again why they are one of the most influential and enduring bands in rock history, with a show that was both nostalgic and fresh, loud and melodic, chaotic and beautiful.

Franz Ferdinand and Bully opened up the show!
