(PCM) A favorite topic among many conspiracy theorists is just what exactly occurred in the town of Roswell, New Mexico in July of 1947. The incident is one of the most widely speculated stories of government cover-up and to this very day, we still have very little information about what actually occurred. Could the government have really tried to cover-up the existence of UFO’s (Unidentified Flying Objects) and alien life forms? Or was it really just an officially sanctioned weather balloon that flew off course and crash-landed? We may never truly know the answer, but many of the responses from government officials that relate to the incident have been very vague and incredibly secretive leading many people to speculate that there was a lot more going on than what they are telling us.
The government has officially stated that the incident in Roswell was a United States Army Air Forces balloon that crashed near the ranch and while many questioned why the weather balloon would be in the shape of a “flying disc”, the government stuck by their story. Any further interest in the story remained quiet until the late 1970’s when ufologists and conspiracy chasers began to surface with stories about an elaborate government cover-up involving the crash-landing of two or more flying saucers and their alien inhabitants which were recovered by military officials and held in a super secret location for research and testing.
Government documents relating to the Roswell incident were sealed and considered to be top secret, however reports were eventually released to the public in the 90’s that revealed it was actually a nuclear test surveillance balloon that crashed and not a weather balloon as initially stated. People are still not buying it however and continue to demand further proof that UFO’s and aliens were not actually captured.
Between 1978 and the early 1990s, UFO researchers interviewed several hundred people who claimed to have had a connection with the events at Roswell in 1947. Hundreds of documents were obtained via Freedom of Information Act requests, along with other documents such as Majestic 12 that were supposedly leaked by insiders. The Majestic 12, otherwise known as MJ-12, is the code name given to an alleged secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials, formed in 1947 by an executive order by U.S. President Harry S. Truman to facilitate recovery and investigation of alien spacecraft.
The conclusions of the UFO researchers were that at least one alien spacecraft crashed near Roswell, alien bodies had been recovered, and a government cover-up of the incident had taken place. The FBI has looked over the research and the allegedly MJ-12 documents and officially declared them to be fake, however they have divided UFO enthusiasts as some believe the report is completely real and others feel it is an elaborate hoax and they still continue to look for additional facts.
In 1997, a poll was conducted by CNN and it revealed that with all the media hype given to the Roswell incident, as there have been countless movies, TV shows, and documentaries about the incident, almost all of the people interviewed believed that aliens did indeed visit the earth, they actually did crash-land at Roswell and the government is covering up any relevant information. People love a good conspiracy to follow, especially when it involves the government and the “so-called” unknown.
A book called the “Roswell Incident” was published in 1980 by Charles Berlitz and William Moore. The book featured accounts of debris described by a man named Jesse Marcel, who was the only person allowed to accompany the debris that was discovered by William Brazel on the Foster homestead ranch, and claimed the debris was like”nothing made on this earth.”
The book introduced the contention that debris which was recovered by Marcel at the Foster ranch, visible in photographs showing Marcel posing with the debris, was substituted for debris from a weather device as part of a cover-up. The book also claimed that the debris recovered from the ranch was not permitted a close inspection by the press. The efforts by the military were described as being intended to discredit and “counteract the growing hysteria towards flying saucers”. The book also introduced the secondhand stories of civil engineer Barney Barnett and a group of archaeology students from an unidentified university seeing alien wreckage and bodies while in the desert.
Another fact regarding the 1947 incident that sent conspiracy theorists into a tizzy is that coincidentally the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) was formed by the National Security Act of 1947 just a mere two weeks after the Roswell UFO Incident. Many feel this is not a coincidence at all, but further cements the fact that the government definitely has something to hide regarding the Roswell incident.
Another interesting theory surrounds the top secret government base referred to as Area 51. In her book, “Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base” American journalist Annie Jacobsen, focused on interviews with scientists and engineers who worked in Area 51, and they dismiss the alien story. She quotes one unnamed source as claiming that Josef Mengele, a German Schutzstaffel officer and a physician in Auschwitz, was recruited by the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin to produce “grotesque, child-size aviators” to be remotely piloted and landed in America in order to cause hysteria similar to Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds (1938). The aircraft, however, crashed and the incident was hushed up by the Americans. Jacobsen wrote that the bodies found at the crash site were children around 12 years old with large heads and abnormally-shaped, oversized eyes. They were neither aliens nor consenting airmen, but human guinea pigs.
We are not sure which is more terrifying, the thought of alien life form landing on earth or the thought that the government actually allowed young children to be experimented on in order to cause a hysterical response from the general public. Both are equally horrifying. There is definitely some crazy things occurring at Area 51 that the government doesn’t want us to know about, as many people have documented their adventures with trying to get anywhere near the facility in various YouTube videos. Currently, there is still much speculation as to what actually occurred on that fateful day in July in Roswell, New Mexico. Many have accepted the governments response to the incident, however others wholeheartedly believe that the truth is still out there. Each year thousands of UFO enthusiasts and those curious about the incident flock to Roswell to investigate the crash site and most hope that one day the truth, no matter what it is, will finally be revealed.
