Watch Metallica Play “Too Far Gone?” Live for the First Time

Metallica live 2023 New Jersey

It was the second ’72 Seasons’ track that the band debuted in New Jersey

Last night, the Metallica concluded the kickoff of their highly anticipated North American leg of their M72 World Tour. The second show of the weekend at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey featured special guests Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills. The unique tour features a No Repeat Weekend – two shows with two entirely different setlist, with no repeated tracks. Last night, the band “Too Far Gone?” live for the very first time. Check out the fan-filmed footage above.

This is the second track from the band’s acclaimed new album, 72 Seasons, that got its debut over the weekend. On Friday night, the band broke out “Shadows Follow” for the first time in a live setting.

The setlist from Night Two was also a monstrous one. They kicked things off with “Whiplash,” then dropped “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” Other big hits included “The Unforgiven, “Blackened,” “One,” and “Enter Sandman.” They also pulled out a few rare gems like “Welcome Home (Sanitarium), “Wherever I May Roam,” and their cover of Thin Lizzy’s “Whiskey in the Jar.” They also treated fans to the coveted instrumental “The Call of Ktulu.” See the full setlist below.

With no songs being repeated in a single weekend, it’s hard to imagine that a song or two might make their way out of the Metallica vault on this tour. Fans didn’t have to wait long, as “Shadows Follow” was the first track to get its live debut on this run. Despite relentlessly touring for over 40 years and being the only band to perform on all seven continents, Metallica still have a solid amount of songs that have never seen the lights of the stage. Now, we can scratch “Shadows Fall” off the list, but there’s still plenty more tracks that Metallica can surprise fans with on this North American tour leg.

Metallica’s M72 World Tour continues next weekend at Stade Olympique in Montreal, Quebec.
