Country Thunder Florida 2023 kicked off at Osceola Heritage Park in the Orlando suburb of Kissimmee, Florida on October 20, 2023. Day 1 of this outstanding festival showcased Cody Johnson, Parker McCollum, Jo Dee Messina, Shane Profitt, Josh Ross and Charly Reynolds.
Cody Johnson was spectacular, delivering great songs and messages of resilience and hope. Johnson is a true headliner who entertained throughout the night, culminating in a stirring rendition of consensus song of the year, “‘Til You Can’t”. Rising star Parker McCollum was an electric support act, cranking out several hits, including the clever “Handle On You”.
Jo Dee Messina continued her resurgence, helped along by the massive success of Cole Swindell’s “She Had Me At Heads Carolina”. Fans were treated to 2 versions of the original classic “Heads Carolina, Tails California”. After getting through most of her set, Messina suddenly lost her singing voice. She apologized to the crowd, and had her band play the song again, with her backup singer taking lead, as she signed every hat, boot and sign that she could. It was a pro move by a class act, which was well received.
Shane Profitt and his band put on a great show, featuring catchy tunes like “How It Oughta Be” and “Better Off Fishin'”. Josh Ross had plenty of hits of his own, including “Ain’t The One”, “Trouble” and “Red Flags”. Orlando’s own Charly Reynolds got things going with a non-stop set of songs you oughta know, highlighted by “Rodeo”, “Flowers”, “Sand Bar” and her cover of “Neon Moon”.
