Daredevil: Born Again No Longer 18 Episodes

It’s been an amazing journey for Daredevil. Originally running from 2015 —2019 on Netflix before Disney reclaimed the property, it was re-greenlit in 2022 for an 18 episode run leveraging Frank Miller’s intense grim masterpiece Born Again. That’s all changed. But how?

In that time we’ve had a few Daredevil cameos. First was in the blockbuster 2021 Spider-Man: No Way Home  which in reality only featured Matt Murdock. And there’s even an extended deleted scene (Spider-Man No Way Home extended Matt Murdock scene: https://youtu.be/EiMM64BSo4k?si=0HUQRyIqntqRogrn) Then came his 2022 crossover appearances in ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’ which served as fanservice featuring Daredevil’s red and yellow suit.

It was during this time fans learned there would be no more Foggy or Karen Page in the Disney Plus Daredevil: Born Again series. It made no sense since she was a central figure in the story. As the woke Disney agenda rose and fell in 2023, word reached Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige that Matt Murdock didn’t even suit up until episode four.

Then came the writer and actor strikes during the summer of 2023. Kevin Feige took that time to review the production. By the fall of 2023 he had enough and made changes in writing staff. He fired show runners/writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman and replaced  them with 2015-2019 Defenderverse Punisher series writer Dario Scardapane.

Next came word more original Daredevil staff were slowly being brought back by Marvel execs including  stunt and fight coordinator Philip Silvera.

So who is involved now in Disney Plus’s highly anticipated series ‘Daredevil: Born Again’?  Charlie Cox returns as the iconic Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as the formidable Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

This series is a pivotal addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), building on the legacy of these beloved characters.  As Kingpin’s compelling storyline continued in Disney +’s 2021 Hawkeye and further explored in Disney +’s 2024 Echo, it sets the stage for an intense showdown in Daredevil: Born Again.

The Daredevil: Born Again Disney + exclusive will delve deeper into the complex dynamics of Daredevil and Kingpin, offering what many hope to be an unmissable chapter in the MCU narrative. With so much turmoil surrounding Daredevil over the course of production, word is the show may now be cut back to 9 to 13 episodes in total with the possibility of being cut in half for a mid-season break with six episodes each. This comes from KingPin actor Vincent D’Onofrio who says, “The amount of episodes keeps fluctuating, so I don’t really know the number that we’re at right now. But it seems like there are a few shows that could work with more episodes, then some that just need eight or 10 or six. Echo is like five. I think this show could definitely work with more episodes, and I know that Charlie is, and I am too, happy to do that. But the number keeps fluctuating. I think you’re gonna have to wait for an official announcement, because I don’t want to say a number that we’re going to do because I’m not even quite sure what it is.”

Daredevil: Born Again, Production on the show is set to resume soon on location in New York City. Despite this January’s snow, Daredevil is set to begin filming the last week of  Monday January 22, 2024. The series is going back to all the primary film locations from Williamsburg as Hells Kitchen to Yonkers, Harlem, and Chelsea. No word if the specific location the New York County Courthouse has been cut since the show is no longer going to be the focus of a legal procedural.
