Drummer Brad Wilk confirmed the band’s intentions on social media
After previously canceling their 2023 tour dates, Rage Against The Machine have seemly called it quits again.
In October of 2022, Rage Against The Machine canceled their 2023 North America Tour dates. Frontman Zack de la Rocha needs additional time to recover from his Achilles tendon injury. The singer sustain the injury in Chicago at the second show of the band’s 2022 reunion tour. Now, it appears the band has no intention of ever rescheduling the dates.
On Wednesday [January 3], drummer Brad Wilk announced on social media that Rage Against The Machine will never be performing together again.
“I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new tour dates for all the canceled RATM [Rage Against The Machine] shows,” Wilk began. “I don’t want to string people or myself along any further. So while their has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom, and I) will not be touring or playing live again. I’m sorry for those who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”
While Wilk’s words seem pretty concrete, there has been no official statement from the band’s management. Nothing similar has appeared on the group’s official social media. Guitarist Tom Morello, who is fairly active on social media, has offered no comment.
In the fall of 2019, rumors of a Rage reunion began to spread like wildfire after a post to the band’s social media. Wayne Kamemoto, a longtime associate of the band, confirmed to Forbes that “the band’s social media is accurate.” November 2, 2019 marked the 20th anniversary of Rage Against The Machine’s third and final (for now) studio album The Battle of Los Angeles, which was released via Epic Records. Originally slated for 2020, the band finally rescheduled the tour for the summer of 2022.
Before their reunion tour, Rage Against The Machine have not performed together since their L.A. Rising show at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 2011. In 2013, drummer Brad Wilk recorded drums on Black Sabbath‘s final studio album 13. He proceeded to perform with the band on their final world tour in place of original drummer Bill Ward.
In 2014, Rage Against The Machine Frontman Zack de la Rocha appeared on Run The Jewels‘ mega-hit “Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck).” In May 2016, Wilk, guitarist Tom Morello and bassist Tim Commerford teamed with Public Enemy‘s Chuck D and Cypress Hill‘s B-Real to form Prophets of Rage. Also in 2016, de la Rocha released a solo album.
Last year, Rage Against The Machine were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
