It’s no secret that we adore all things Funko…in fact…we may just be Funkoholics…and this year Funko soared to new heights with their “Funkoville International Airport booth experience at San Diego Comic Con 2024.
Funko offered several amazing events and experiences for fans during Comic Con including:
Funko Fusion: A Festival of Fandom Panel – 10:10 Games, in collaboration with Funko, Inc. and Universal Products & Experiences, revealed a ton of exciting Funko Fusion videos, images, casting announcements, and more during their SDCC panel, headlined by the debut of the action-adventure game’s story trailer. *Full recap release attached.
Funko Fusion x Shaun of the Dead Pop Up – Fans got their first chance to play Funko Fusion at the Shaun of the Dead 20th Anniversary pop-up activation, where a demo of the game’s Shaun of the Dead-inspired level was available.
Behind-the-Scenes with Mondo Panel – Peter Santa Maria (Mondo Senior Creative Director), Hector Arce (Mondo Senior Director, Creative and Product Development) and Bob Fulkerson (Mondo Senior Director of Merchandising, Sales and Operations) gave the audience provided an in-depth look at all the brand had to offer at SDCC. In addition to showcasing Scare Mare, their new original character for the MOTU universe, the team announced a series of collectibles from ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ animated series, including Peter Venkman, Samhain, Egon Spengler and Boogieman. They were then joined on stage by surprise guest and comic book legend Jim Lee, who discussed his partnership experience with the brand. At the panel’s closing, all attendees were gifted a lithograph featuring new original art from Lee.
Pop! Yourself
Accessible to fans at SDCC for the first time ever, Pop! Yourself featured an on-site experience inspired by Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine. Each day, fans lined up for the chance to create their own cosplay character modeled after either Deadpool or Wolverine, complete with character body and two additional accessories. Fans in attendance received exclusive Comic-Con packaging and a surprise “buddy” collectible, as well as access to two exclusive accessory options, including a Deadpool VIP lanyard and a TVA inspired device.
In celebration of the event, fans at home have the opportunity to partake in the fun via the Pop! Yourself online experience.
We caught up with Funko’s Marisa Dabney to chat about this year’s Pop! Yourself Experience at SDCC 2024.
Dabney told us, that Pop! Yourself has been “doing very, very well” and that “this year is the first time Pop! Yourself has been at San Diego Comic Con allowing fans to build a Pop! of themselves and take it home that day!”
Dabney went on to tell us that the Pop! Yourself Experience at SDCC is “really a great opportunity for fans to really engage with the Pop! Yourself Experience outside of our stores at a major event. It’s been really fun to Pop! Yourself as Deadpool or Wolverine in cosplay timed with the movie and it’s a great momento to take home from San Diego Comic Con! It allows our fans to Pop! themselves along with one of the biggest movies of the summer.”
We had to ask which character, Deadpool or Wolverine was gaining more momentum, Dabney laughed and said, “I think the movie is “Deadpool and Wolverine” for a reason and it’s been a pretty even split!”
Dabney also revealed that Funko and the Pop! Yourself Experience are “always trying to stay on the pulse of what our fans are engaging with and what’s trending so you can always make sure that Pop! Yourself includes all the accessories they need to really make their Pop! reflective of all their different fandoms and also make sure it feels really special and customized to them!”
