The devastating wildfires in Southern California have the world’s eyes on the Golden State. Sadly during these fires, Hollywood had to deal with another devastating blow when it was announced that legendary director David Lynch had passed away at the age of 78.

From movies to television, Lynch embarked on storytelling, unlike anyone before him. He inspired a generation of storytellers. Before entering the world of cinema, Lynch pursued painting, enrolling at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. During this time, he began experimenting with film as an extension of his visual art.

It was in 1977 that Lynch debuted with the black-and-white surreal movie Eraserhead.  David Lynch’s televison show Twin Peaks (1990–91, 2017) made him a  household name. The show was a cultural phenomenon with its blend of soap opera melodrama, supernatural intrigue, and quirky humor.

Lynch’s creativity went beyond filmmaking. Lynch collaborated with musician Angelo Badalamenti to create some of the most iconic scores in cinema history, including the ethereal theme for Twin Peaks. Lynch released several experimental albums, including Crazy Clown Time (2011) and The Big Dream (2013). The albums featured haunting lyrics and atmospheric tones that mirroed the mood of his films.

Rest easy with a cup of coffee in your hand Mr. Lynch you were a true pioneer in all that you did. And you did it your way.
