Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced the release of John Carpenter’s 1984 science fiction classic, “Starman,” as a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, scheduled for May 27, 2025.
“Starman” stars Jeff Bridges, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of an alien assuming human form, and Karen Allen as Jenny Hayden, a widow who becomes his reluctant companion. The narrative follows their cross-country journey to reunite the alien with his mothership, exploring themes of love and humanity.
The 4K Ultra HD disc presents the film in 2160p resolution with Dolby Vision, restored from the original camera negative. Audio options include Dolby Atmos, 5.1, and 2-channel surround sound. The accompanying Blu-ray disc, sourced from the 4K master, offers high-definition viewing with English 5.1 and 2-channel surround sound.
Bonus materials encompass an audio commentary by John Carpenter and Jeff Bridges, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes time lapses, featurettes such as “They Came from Hollywood: Revisiting Starman” and a making-of documentary, a music video, still gallery, and the theatrical trailer.
This release marks the first individual 4K UHD Blu-ray availability of “Starman,” following its inclusion in the 2024 “Columbia Classics: 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 4” box set.
Pre-orders for the SteelBook edition are anticipated to commence soon, with availability through major retailers. Fans and collectors can look forward to experiencing this romantic science fiction odyssey in enhanced visual and audio quality.
