Focus Features has released the first trailer for Honey Don’t!, the latest film from Oscar-winning director Ethan Coen. Set to premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and open in U.S. theaters on August 22, the dark comedy stars Margaret Qualley, Chris Evans, and Aubrey Plaza in a twisted tale of small-town secrets and spiritual deception.
The film follows Honey O’Donahue (Qualley), a sharp-tongued private investigator in a dusty desert town, as she probes a string of mysterious deaths linked to a charismatic preacher (Evans) and his enigmatic church. The trailer teases snappy dialogue, noir-style intrigue, and a retro aesthetic reminiscent of Coen’s earlier works like Fargo and No Country for Old Men.
Aubrey Plaza co-stars as a local police officer who appears to form a flirty alliance with Honey, adding a layer of queer subtext that has already sparked buzz online. The film is the second installment in a planned trilogy of queer-themed B-movies by Coen and his wife, Tricia Cooke, following 2024’s Drive-Away Dolls.
The ensemble cast also includes Charlie Day, Billy Eichner, and Lena Hall. The trailer showcases the film’s blend of dark humor, eccentric characters, and a mystery centered around a church with a cryptic logo, promising an engaging cinematic experience.
Honey Don’t! will have its world premiere at Cannes in May before its theatrical release on August 22, 2025.
