Film Review: ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ A Fitting End To The Trilogy

We may have shed a few tears at the end of  Sony Pictures and Marvel’s “Venom: The Last Dance”, as we found it to be a fitting, yet emotional end, to the trilogy. Actor Tom Hardy has once again brilliantly reprised his role of journalist Eddie Brock and the film follows both Eddie and Venom as they are on the run from forces in both their worlds. The pair are then forced to make a devastating decision as they run out of options to save both themselves and humanity.

We definitely found “Venom: The Last Dance” to be the most entertaining of the trilogy and it takes viewers on a wild ride, both visually and emotionally. The action sequences are spot-on and the comedic moments are perfectly timed. Along with Hardy, “Venom: The Last Dance” stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham.

Kelly Marcel, who wrote and produced the first two “Venom” movies, directed “The Last Dance” from a screenplay she wrote. Marcel and Hardy developed “Venom 3‘s” story and produced alongside Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker. Joe Caracciolo Jr. is the executive producer.

While there are few plot holes scattered throughout the film that may upset die-hard fans at the end of the day “Venom: The Last Dance” was an engaging and fun film. The antics and chemistry between Eddie and Venom are reminiscent of a classic buddy comedy film and we just enjoyed following their adventures from rescuing dogs, riding wild horses, to some David Bowie car karaoke and everything in-between. The film takes you on a emotional rollercoaster until the very end, and it is hard to believe that this is “supposedly” the last we will see of Venom.

The character of Knull is definitely one of the creepier elements in the film and it certainly sets in motion the idea that he could definitely become a threat in the future, but for now we will have to wait and see. In the end the main thread that holds “Venom: The Last Dance” together is the relationship between Eddie and Venom that you could almost call a “bromance”.  Jokes aside, there is a true love between these two and it is their quips and banter take keeps the audience entertained and their bond will never be broken.

While “Venom: The Last Dance” is not a perfect film, it is a fun film and while this may be the end for this incantation of the Venom character, we are hoping that is will not be the true “last dance” for our beloved symbiote.
