(PCM) Britney Spears’ may be getting rave reviews for her “Piece Of Me” show in Las Vegas, however many fans are angered over shelling out $2,500 dollars for a VIP Meet-and-Greet with Spears to only end up with about three seconds of time with her, which was awkward at best.
The VIP package included front row tickets to the show, as well as, a ton of exclusive Britney merchandise, what the true reason that fans are shelling out the $2,500 dollars for the package is for the opportunity to meet Britney and of course take a photo.
According to RadarOnline, fans were told that they would not be allowed to hug or touch Britney without her permission and they were not allowed to bring her any gifts. Also, once the fans were actually in Britney’s presence it was literally the case of smile, snap picture, now goodbye.
Many fans had their hopes up for a nice, well-put together meet and greet and instead found it to be incredibly awkward and aloof. Sources go on to say that Britney barely spoke to anyone and just kept smiling and saying ‘thank you’ a lot.
It angers me to hear when artists and their management teams behave in this fashion, as these fans are shelling out their hard earned cash for a sometimes once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet their idols. While I know that artists often times have strict schedules to adhere to and time is of the essence, don’t offer expensive packages out to fans if you can not afford to give them the few minutes that they deserve. They are after all the reason why these performers have obtained the success that they have after all these years.
This particular situation may or may not be the direct fault of Spears, as most of these superstars have entire teams of people directing their every move all day, every day, so someone needs to come up with some better time management skills to avoid additional situations and disappointed fans in the future.
Spears is by no way, shape, or form the only artist who has ever cheated fans out of their due time during a meet and greet, there have been countless others who are more than happy to cash the paycheck, but not willing to put in the time to justify how it was earned.
On the contrary, I have been working in and around this industry for quite some time and have also witnessed bands and artists, who will stick around for hours after a show meeting fans, snapping pictures, and signing autographs. I understand when you reach a certain level of stardom it can be very hard to mingle and interact with fans in a normal way as the celebrity would be mobbed, however if you are going to charge an exorbitant fee to grace the fans with your presence at least do your best to make it worth their while.
