(PCM) Catherine Deneuve stars in the charmingly fun and touching On My Way, opening in N.Y. theaters this March 14th.
On My Way follows the adventures of Bettie, a former beauty queen in her sixties coping with a sudden break-up and financial woes from her family’s restaurant, who discovers a new take on life when she agrees to watch her grandson for a few days.
Jilted by her lover and distressed by her declined credit cards, Bettie clears her head by taking a drive that casually becomes a road trip. Her impulsive trip leads her on a journey to new and unexpected places, including an ex-Miss France pageant, and exposes her to new experiences, including the opportunity to get to know her grandson.
Bettie agrees to take care of her estranged grandson after his mother is desperate for help, and the two embark on an adventure together, discovering themselves as they learn about and from each other.
Like most coming-of-age road trip films, On My Way explores themes of self discovery, freedom, passion, and life lessons. Yet, unlike most films in this genre, the protagonist is not a young 20-something fresh out of school, but a seasoned individual with life experience.
Catherine Deneuve (Repulsion, Persepolis) gives a great performance in On My Way as Bettie; Boyd van Hoeij of Variety writes of her performance: “Deneuve could play this role in her sleep, making it all the more gratifying that she’s fully tuned in to the material.”
Starring alongside Deneuve in the film are Nemo Schiffman, and Gérard Garouste.
On My Way has a run time of 1 hour and 56 minutes and opens in N.Y. theaters this March 14th. Watch a trailer for the film below!
