(PCM) Hollywood’s biggest night has almost arrived and without a doubt the Oscars this year is going to be an incredibly close battle. The amount of talent that consists within the major categories this year is absolutely mind-blowing.
The overall strength of this year’s contenders makes it incredibly unlikely that one film will be able to make an entire sweep.
Like many of you, we have our predictions about who the evenings biggest winners will be and who will unfortunately go home empty-handed when the 2014 Oscars wind down to a close.
Best Picture
“12 Years a Slave”
“The Wolf of Wall Street”
“Captain Phillips”
“Her”
“American Hustle”
“Gravity”
“Dallas Buyers Club”
“Nebraska”
“Philomena”
Our prediction: “The Wolf Of Wall Street” although it could truly be a toss-up between it and “12 Years A Slave”
Best Director
Steve McQueen – “12 Years a Slave”
David O. Russell – “American Hustle”
Alfonso Cuaron – “Gravity”
Alexander Payne – “Nebraska”
Martin Scorsese – “The Wolf of Wall Street”
Our predicition: Alfonso Cuaron for “Gravity”…this film was both thrilling and visually spectacular.
Bruce Dern – ”Nebraska”
Chiwetel Ejiofor – ”12 Years a Slave”
Matthew McConaughey – ”Dallas Buyers Club”
Leonardo DiCaprio – ”The Wolf of Wall Street”
Christian Bale – ”American Hustle”
Our prediction: This one is another toss-up between Leonardo DiCaprio for “The Wolf of Wall Street” and Matthew McConaughey for “Dallas Buyers Club”. McConaughey has made a sweep for his role at most of the season’s other awards shows, however don’t you think it’s due time that DiCaprio finally wins! His role in “Wolf Of Wall Street” is more than deserving.
Best Actress
Amy Adams – ”American Hustle”
Cate Blanchett – ”Blue Jasmine”
Judi Dench – ”Philomena”
Sandra Bullock – ”Gravity”
Meryl Streep – ”August: Osage County”
Our prediction: It is our hope that this award will go to Sandra Bullock for “Gravity”, however many people are leaning towards Cate Blanchett for “Blue Jasmine”.
Best Supporting Actor
Barkhad Abdi – ”Captain Phillips”
Bradley Cooper – ”American Hustle”
Jonah Hill – ”The Wolf of Wall Street”
Jared Leto – ”Dallas Buyers Club”
Michael Fassbender – ”12 Years a Slave”
Our prediction: This has got to be one of the toughest categories this year. All of the men nominated did a truly phenomenal job in their respective role. Right now, we are leaning towards Michael Fassbender for “12 Years A Slave”, but truly this one is really anyone’s game.
Jennifer Lawrence – “American Hustle”
Lupita Nyong’o – “12 Years a Slave”
June Squibb – “Nebraska”
Julia Roberts – “August: Osage County”
Sally Hawkins – “Blue Jasmine”
Our prediction: We have to go with Hollywood’s sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence for “American Hustle”, however the Academy may not agree, as she did have a major win just last year.
Best Original Screenplay
“American Hustle” – David O. Russell and Eric Warren Singer
“Blue Jasmine” – Woody Allen
“Her” – Spike Jonze
“Nebraska” – Bob Nelson
“Dallas Buyers Club” – Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack
Our prediction: “Her” by Spike Jonze. The screenplay is both clever and captivating.
Best Adapted Screenplay
“12 Years a Slave” – John Ridley
“Before Midnight” – Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke and Richard Linklater
“The Wolf of Wall Street” – Terence Winter
“Captain Phillips” – Billy Ray
“Philomena” – Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope
Our prediction: Another toss-up between “Captain Phillips” and “The Wolf Of Wall Street”
Best Animated Feature
“The Wind Rises”
“Frozen”
“Despicable Me 2″
“Ernest & Celestine”
“The Croods”
Our prediction: Frozen…hands down!
Here are the rest:
