Nymphomaniac: Volume I in Theaters March 21st

Nymphomaniac-_Volume_I_47(PCM) Lars von Trier’s latest film travels familiar territory for the well known director, delving into themes of love, passion, sex, identity, and human nature in Nymphomaniac: Volume I in U.S. theaters on a limited run starting March 21st.

Nymphomaniac: Volume I is the wild and poetic story of a woman’s journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe.

On a cold winter’s evening the old, charming, bachelor, Seligman, finds Joe beaten up in an alley. He brings her home to his flat where he cares for her wounds while asking her about her life.

As he tends to her wounds, he listens intently as Joe recounts the erotic story of her adolescence and young-adulthood.

Scott Foundas of Variety praised Nymphomaniac, calling the film “a ferociously entertaining experience in which one finds von Trier at the peak of his craft, linking together ideas about female sexuality, fly-fishing and artistic creation with equal amounts of playfulness and intellectual rigor.”

Starring in Nymphomaniac are Charlotte Gainsbourg (Melancholia, Antichrist), Stellan Skarsgård (Good Will Hunting, The Avengers), Stacy Martin, Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Lawless), Christian Slater (True Romance, Heathers), and Uma Thurman (Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction).

Writer/director Lars von Trier is well known for exploring controversial topics and portraying them in a surrealistic and visually stunning way. Well known films of his include Dogville (2003), Antichrist (2009), and Melancholia (2011).
