(PCM) News that has been revealed today shows that NBC has been really cracking down on the rules that celebrities have to follow if they wish to be a guest on the highly successful “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” program.
The rules state that if the celebrity plans to appear on another show on either ABC or CBS then they can forget about appearing on “The Tonight Show”. What is even pushier is that the rule does not only apply to those other late night show that are direct competition with “The Tonight Show”, but also extend out to cover the morning shows on the various competing networks as well.
This is not the first time that NBC has found themselves in hot water over attempting to monopolized the publicity circuit. The network received backlash for a similar practice back in the days of Johnny Carson and even former host of “The Tonight Show” Jay Leno has been accused of the same situation.
NBC believed that the incredibly strong ratings for “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” give them a huge upper hand when going up against the other networks. The network has already reached out to many celebrities, publicists and agents telling them that if they want to be on Fallon, they cannot appear on any other network.
Ouch…it seems like NBC is trying to create a bit of a late night monopoly. “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” has been booking an incredible array of guests and is totally dominating the ratings, however with these rules in place we are curious to see how long that will last.
