Devo Guitarist Bob Casale Dead At Age 61

Bob-Casale

(PCM) It is with great sadness that we report that Devo guitarist Bob Casale has suddenly passed away from heart failure at the age of 61.

Bob was a member of Devo since the band’s beginning back in 1973, alongside his brother Gerald Casale. Gerald took to his Facebook page with the following comments regarding his brother’s unexpected passing saying “As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got.”

Bob Casale was lovingly referred to as “Bob 2″ in the band as he performed along with  guitarist Bob Mothersbaugh, the brother of Devo co-founder Mark Mothersbaugh.

Mark Mothersbaugh issued the following statement regarding Bob Casale’s passing: ”He not only was integral in Devo’s sound, he worked over 20 years at Mutato (the band’s headquarters on Sunset Blvd), collaborating with me on 60 or 70 films and television shows, not to mention countless commercials and many video games.Bob was instrumental in creating the sound of projects as varied as Rugrats and Wes Anderson’s films. He was a great friend. I will miss him greatly.”

Bob’s brother Gerald goes on to say that Bob was very much looking forward to performing shows with Devo again in the near future and ”his sudden death from conditions that led to heart failure came as a total shock to us all.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the surviving members of Devo, as well as, Bob Casales’ family and friends during this difficult time.
