Belle in Theaters May 2

Belle_6(PCM) Based off the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, Belle opens in U.S. theaters on a limited run starting May 2.

Belle is inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay.

Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield and his wife, Belle’s lineage affords her certain privileges, yet her status prevents her from the traditions of noble social standing.

While her cousin Elizabeth chases suitors for marriage, Belle is left on the sidelines wondering if she will ever find love. After meeting an idealistic young vicar’s son bent on changing society, he and Belle help shape Lord Mansfield’s role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.

Belle stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Odd Thomas, Larry Crowne), Tom Wilkinson (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Batman Begins), Emily Watson (Corpse Bride, The Book Thief), Sarah Gadon (Cosmopolis, Enemy), Penelope Wilton (Shaun of the Dead, Pride and Prejudice), Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow, Malefient), Tom Felton (Harry Potter, Rise of the Planet of the Apes), and Matthew Goode (Watchmen, Stoker).

Belle has a run time of 1 hour and 45 minutes and is rated PG for thematic elements, some language and brief smoking images.
