(PCM) It has been nearly 20 years since the original film “Mrs. Doubtfire” graced the big screen and it has recently been rumored that Fox 2000 is finally moving forward on plans for a sequel.

Reportedly actor Robin Williams has already signed on to reprise his role as Mrs. Doubtfire/Danial Hillard in the upcoming sequel. In the original film, Williams dresses up as a nanny named Mrs. Doubtfire in order to spend more time with his children after a divorce from their mother, portrayed by actress Sally Field.

Director of the original film Christoper Columbus has also signed on to the project which will be written by David Berebaum, who is most well-known for penning the script for the Christmas classic “Elf”.

This is the most solid news we have heard to date about the upcoming project, as the studio has been trying to get a “Mrs. Doubtfire” sequel together since 2001.
