(PCM) Tom McCarthy managed a baseball first and he isn’t even a player. He announced his own play as it happened.
In what can only be called stranger than fiction, the Philadelphia Phillies inaugural experiment of putting their broadcast announcers in the stands during a game with the fans has produced a made for TV moment.

In the top of the first inning against the Atlanta Braves, pitcher Kyle Kendrick gave up a home run. But the home team fans cheered. Not for the other team, but for their own game announcer Tom McCarthy. The late Harry Kalas would be proud.

As the ball sailed to straightaway center field, Tom McCarthy gave his own play-by-play for his own catch. Encouraging him live was retired World Series Champion pitcher Jamie Moyer with follow retired slugger Matt Stairs.
McCarthy caught the ball one handed with his own childhood baseball glove.
Like any good Phillies fan, McCarthy was prodded by Jamie Moyer to reject the baseball as a souvenir because it was hit by the other team. McCarthy obliged albeit as reluctant as any fan he took a breath and then tossed it back into the baseball playing field for the players to retrieve.

Later in the game Tom gushed about the catch, “Jamie made me feel guilty, I had to throw it back!”
It was an amazing TV moment that may mean more of these special type events will be planned by more professional sports teams.
