Is Dwayne Johnson the New Shazam?!

Shazam(PCM) In the weeks leading up to Comic-Con® International, everyone has been throwing around speculations about upcoming films and potential projects, speculating on titles, superheros, and franchise continuations.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been adding fuel to the fire, dropping hints since March that he will have a role in a DC Comics superhero film.

No cast have been officially added to the film yet but rumors are flying that Dwayne Johnson will play either superhero Shazam aka “Captain Marvel” or anti-hero Black Adam.

Back in March, rumors were spreading that Johnson would play the role of John Stewart, better known as the Green Lantern, but he squashed those rumors by responding to speculators on his Twitter saying:

Sounds like the role of Black Adam could soon be credited to Dwayne Johnson’s IMDb!

For those who are unfamiliar, Shazam is a DC Comics superhero whose real identity is a boy who can turn into an adult with Superman level superpowers by saying “Shazam” and Black Adam is his adversary who in more recent years has been written as more of an anti-hero than a super villain.

Fans are hopeful that some solid announcements regarding the film, which currently has a release date of 2016, will come out this week at Comic-Con® International.

In the meantime, you can get your fair share of Dwayne Johnson as a hero in Brett Ratner’s Hercules, out this Friday, July 25.

So far Peter Segal (50 First Dates, Get Smart) is attached as director of Shazam and Bill Birch and Geoff Johns are credited as the writers.

Stay tuned for more annoucnements!
