(PCM) Columbia Pictures’ has pushed back the release date for The Interview, an action/comedy starring James Franco and Seth Rogen.
The Interview, which was originally going to open on October 10, 2015, will now open in theaters nationwide December 25, which could be unfortunate for Paramount Pictures’ comedy Hot Tub Time Machine 2 opening on the same day.
“The combination of Seth, Evan, and James is pure comedic magic,” said Rory Bruer, president, Worldwide Distribution for the studio. “In our early screenings of ‘The Interview,’ we’ve seen that they’ve delivered yet again, and we’re thrilled to be making the move to Christmas – one of the most important moviegoing days of the year and the perfect date to show off their brand of comedy.”
The Interview follows Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) who run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show “Skylark Tonight.” When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists.
As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
Starring alongside James Franco and Seth Rogen are Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex, Mean Girls), Randall Park (Larry Crowne, Neighbors), and Timothy Simons (Veep, Draft Day).
The Interview has already seen its fair share of controversy; when news of the film and its plot reached North Korean, the North Korean government equated the film to outright terrorism propaganda.
