“God Help the Girl” Opens in New York on September 12

GodHelpTheGirl(PCM) Writer/director Stuart Murdoch embarks on his first feature full length film with God Help the Girl, opening in New York September 12.

In God Help the Girl, writer/director Stuart Murdoch creates a poignant coming-of-age story that doubles as a sublime indie-pop musical from one of indie pop’s biggest songwriters.

The project began as a suite of songs, written while Murdoch was between records and tours as lead singer of Belle & Sebastian.

He nurtured it for nearly a decade into a fully formed film, set in the bohemian fantasia of Glasgow’s West End, which is populated by mods, rockers, and emo kids who have no qualms about breaking into song and dance.

God Help the Girl stars Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, The Uninvited), Olly Alexander (Enter the Void, Gulliver’s Travels), Hannah Murray (Skins, Dark Shadows), and Pierre Boulanger (Monsieur Ibrahim, Monte Carlo).

The musically talented Murdoch has had his music featured on numerous soundtracks including Juno, 500 Days of Summer, The Devil Wears Prada, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

God Help the Girl is currently sporting a fresh rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes and won the award  for Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking – Music at the Newport Beach Film Festival.

The film was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in World Dramatic Cinema at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
