(PCM) A woman by the name of Isabella Tanikumi is suing Disney for the amount of $250 million claiming that they stole excerpts of her life story for their mega-hit film “Frozen”.
Tanikumi, who is originally from Peru, says that “Frozen” pulls directly from her life and her book titled “Yearnings of the Heart” which was published back in 2010, which is her autobiography about her immigration from Peru to America.
Officially Disney has claimed that “Frozen” is based off of the Hans Christian Anderson story “Snow Queen”, however Tanikumi feels that the film is direct plagiarism of her own work. She only recently discovered the similarities after purchasing and watching the film with her young daughter.
Tanikumi, whose real name is Amy Gonzalez, has filed a copy right infringement suit in New Jersey and we have to admit that her story does share a few similarities with the Disney film in the sense that it features two sisters that have a deep connection and there is an obstacle they must both overcome, however couldn’t that be said about any type of story within that type of genre.
The only thing that was bit odd in the case of similarities was the characters of Hans and Kristoff in Frozen match up a little too well with Tanikumi’s love interests in her book also named Hans and Christoff … hmmm?
“Frozen” has made Disney $1.2 billion dollars globally and thus far there has been no response from the company in regards to Tanikumi’s claims of infringement.
