(AOTN) Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
“Blade Runner 2049” will take place 30 years after the events of the first film and is set to hit theaters on October 6, 2017. In the new viral short below, director Denis Villeneuve asked several artists who he respects greatly to create three short stories that featured some replicants that appeared after 2019 when the first “Blade Runner” takes place, but before 2049 when his new “Blade Runner” story begins.
You can check out the first short “2036: Nexus Dawn” created by Luke Scott and starring actor Jared Leto below! “Nexus: 2036” takes place in the year 2036 and revolves around Jared Leto’s character, Niander Wallace. Wallace introduces a new line of “perfected” replicants called the Nexus 9, seeking to get the prohibition on replicants repealed. This no doubt has serious ramifications that will be crucial to the plot of “Blade Runner 2049”.
