It continues to crush the box office competition, winning the box office for the second straight week. It brought in an additional $60 million this weekend, bringing the films estimated domestic total to just over $218 million. With excellent business overseas, It has brought an international cume of just over $152 for a worldwide total of $370 million. It’s been an impressive start for It, and it should be interesting to see how It performs in its third weekend with the release of both The LEGO Ninjango Movie and Kingsman The Golden Circle.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, American Assassin finished second this weekend, opening with a solid $14.8 million. The Michael Keaton led Assassin was not only able to top the film which sits in the third spot, but almost double its opening weekend box office.
The movie that sits number 3 is Darren Aronofsky’s Mother!, which opened with a disappointing $7.5 million. Despite decent reviews and two huge stars, audiences seemed less than thrilled with Aronofsky’s new picture. Rounding out the top-five this weekend was Home Again $5.3 million, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard with $3.6 million.
