‘Stargate Origins’ Lands Actress for the Role of Catherine Langford

Stargate Origins has officially begun production. Australian actress Ellie Gall (A Midsummer’s Nightmare, Mind Over Maddie) is set to play the lead role of fan-favorite Catherine Langford in the 10-episode series.

Airing exclusively on the new digital platform Stargate Command later this year, Stargate Origins is a premium digital series that will explore a brand new chapter in Catherine’s early history surrounding the extraordinary portal. The show will follow young Catherine as she embarks on an unexpected adventure to unlock the mystery of what lies beyond the Stargate in order to save Earth from unimaginable darkness.

Stargate Origins is produced by entertainment studio New Form, as well as MGM’s Digital Group. The series will be directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan (Virtual Morality) and written by Mark Ilvedson and Justin Michael Terry.

“The opportunity to portray this iconic character is once in a lifetime,” said Gall, “I’m thrilled to be a part of the Stargate family and I hope Stargate fans are as equally excited as I am about Catherine Langford’s new adventure.”

Ellie Gall recently starred on the Lifetime television movie A Midsummer’s Nightmare, a psychological thriller and modern-day take on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She first endeared herself to fans as a series regular on Australia’s Disney Channel series Mind Over Maddie. Additional credits include recurring roles on Australia’s period drama A Place to Call Home and the acclaimed Network Ten series Puberty Blues chronicling the coming-of-age of two teenage girls during the late 1970s.

Stargate Command has also confirmed that former Stargate Atlantis cast member Connor Trinneer will make a return to the franchise in Stargate Origins, playing the role of Catherine’s father, Professor Langford. Additional supporting cast will include Salome Azizi, Philip Alexander, Michelle Jubilee GonzalezDaniel Rashid, Sarah Navratil, Shvan Aladdin, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, Derek Chariton, Justin Michael Terry and Lincoln Werner Hoppe, with more information on those roles to be released in the coming weeks.

With more than 380 episodes spanning nearly 20 seasons, the Stargate franchise is an award-winning, cultural phenomenon. Stargate SG-1 is one of the longest-running science-fiction series in U.S. television history, while the original Stargate film went on to gross almost $200 million worldwide and spawned three live-action spin-off series.

Stargate Command, the new digital platform from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), launched on September 20th and will be the exclusive home to the U.S. premiere of Stargate Origins. Stargate Command is the definitive hub for fans to celebrate and interact as well as explore the Stargate library and other content spanning the franchise’s decades long history and offers two forms of membership: a free version and an All Access paid membership, which requires a one-time membership fee of $20.
