The Terminator franchise, much like it’s titular character(s), just won’t seem to die. Ever since the release Terminator 2: Judgement Day, every sequel has produced diminishing returns bot in terms of critical appeal and box office prospects. This has seemingly been due to the absence of series creator James Cameron – who watched as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Terminator: Genisys all drove the franchise to the brink of death. Now, Cameron is returning to produce Terminator 6, which is set to be a direct continuation of T2 while ignoring the events of the aforementioned sequels.
Along with seeing the return of both Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terminator 6 will also be a reboot of sorts, bringing in new cast members to pass the baton to. Beyond this, plot details have been kept tightly under wraps — until now. Speaking with Yahoo, Cameron revealed new character details about the movie, along with the film’s potential title. That’s right, the upcoming Terminator 6 reboot finally has a working title – Terminator: Dark Fate. Here’s what the producer had to say in regards to how the working title might come into play for the Tim Miller-helmed film:
Cameron notes that the title could very well change by the time that the marketing kicks in. With that said, Terminator: Dark Fate seems like a very appropriate title considering the content of the franchise. While this writer doesn’t hate the title, it will be interesting to see if it ends up sticking in the long run. Additionally, Cameron also spilled some character details about Schwarzenegger’s fifth outing as the titular character, along with how things might be different this time around:
There’s not a whole lot to go off of here, but could this version of the character be the original model? A deleted scene from Terminator 3 touched on this unexplained part of franchise, but the learning more about origins of the T-800 could potentially be cool if handled right. To be honest, it’s just refreshing that Arnold will be playing something other than an aged (or de-aged) version of the T-800. Either way, this new information also means that we’ll surely be getting some sort of teaser trailer in the next few months. Terminator: Dark Fate is set to hit theaters on November 1, 2019.
