The Cast For DownSizing Expands

(PCM) Three new actors have joined the cast for Alexander Payne’s Downsizing, a sci-fi satire currently in development starring Matt Damon and Reese Witherspoon.

The high concept story, taking place in the not-too-distant future, follows a husband (Damon) and wife (Witherspoon) who voluntarily decide to shrink themselves in an attempt to gain control over their out of control spending habits and lives. Things don’t go according to plan when his wife backs out last minute, leaving the jilted husband in an unfortunate situation.

The Wrap recently reported the addition of Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jason Sudeikis to the cast of the sci-fi dramedy in unspecified roles. Currently slated for a 2017 release, Downsizing is written and directed by Academy Award-winner Alexander Payne along with longtime co-writer Jim Taylor.

A New Trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie is Here!

Chappie(PCM) Sony Pictures Entertainment released a new trailer for District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s latest film, a futuristic action-thriller about the first robot created with Artificial Intelligence, Chappie.

The new trailer features Hugh Jackman and his villainous mullet as he hunts for and tries to destroy Chappie, the first robot with A.I., due to the potential risk it poses to the human race. We also see a decent amount of Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel as Chappie’s creator and South African rap group Die Antwoord, who also star in the film as themselves.

The third film between writer-director Neill Blomkamp and writer Terri Tatchell, Chappie stars Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er and will open in theaters nationwide starting March 6, 2015.

Nominations Announced For 2014 BAFTA Awards

BAFTA(PCM) As the first week of January comes to a close, awards season continues to kick in to high gear. The EE British British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the nominations for their 2014 BAFTA Awards, taking place on Sunday, May 10.

Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Birdman, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game, and James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything are all up for Best Film among other nominations.

Ava DuVernay’s Martin Luther King Jr. drama, Selma, surprised many pundits when it received zero nominations, even though the film was eligible for the BAFTA Awards.

Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper Will Open in IMAX Theaters Jan. 16

AmericanSniper(PCM) Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures announced in collaboration with the IMAX Corporation plans to release Clint Eastwood’s Oscar buzz-worthy war drama, American Sniper, in IMAX theaters across the nation following on the same day as the film’s January 16, 2015 release.

The Official Rating for Fifty Shades of Grey is Here

FiftyShadesofGrey(PCM) Sam Taylor-Johnson’s adaptation of the erotic romance novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, has officially been rated by the MPAA, receiving a designated R rating and surprising almost no one.

The MPAA deemed Fifty Shades of Grey suitable only for those 17 years or older due to the film’s “strong sexual content including dialogue, some unusual behavior and graphic nudity, and for language.”

Gaining viral popularity after sparking controversy around its treatment of BDSM, its origins as an erotic Twilight fan-fiction, and its grammar/literary content, Fifty Shades of Grey has one on to sell over 100 million copies worldwide.

The First Teaser Trailer For Marvel’s Ant-Man Is Here!

Ant-Man(PCM) After two previews and much anticipation, the first teaser trailer for Marvel’s Ant-Man is finally here!

After premiering during Tuesday night’s pilot episode of “Marvel’s Agent Carter” on ABC, the two minute long teaser trailer was uploaded to Marvel’s official Youtube account, Marvel Entertainment.

First major impression from the teaser trailer; Paul Rudd looks incredible as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man.

As someone who has never read the comics, I can’t really say I learned much from the trailer, but I would probably blow money at the movies to see Ant-Man based on this trailer alone so I’d say the teaser trailer hit its mark.

Scarlett Johansson Will Star in DreamWorks’ Live-Action “Ghost in the Shell”

ScarlettJohanssonBlackWidow(PCM) Variety confirmed today, January 5, that Scarlett Johansson will star in DreamWorks’ live-action remake of the futuristic police thriller, Ghost in the Shell.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell is currently in pre-production.

Helmed by Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, DreamWorks’ adaptation comes from a script by The Hoax and The Reluctant Fundamentalist writer Bill Wheeler and is produced by Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Iron Man producer Avi Arad and Steven Paul.

Though the manga and multiple animated film series detail the missions and operations of Public Security Section 9, a counter-cyberterrorist organization in mid 21st century Japan, Variety reports that Sanders’s take on the franchise has Scarlett Johansson as part of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission.

Ant-Man(PCM) It’s been less than a month since Marvel revealed the official synopsis for director Peyton Reed’s  Ant-Man, and now we’re just three days from the debut of the first official trailer.

Marvel released a teaser trailer for the first official Ant-Man trailer, much like the recently released teaser trailer for the next official Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, yesterday.

The teaser trailer announced the release of the official trailer, scheduled to premiere during the world premiere of “Marvel’s Agent Carter”on Tuesday, January 6  on ABC at 8 p.m. EST.
