The official announcement was made on Tuesday by Summit Entertainment, about a month after Michael Caine told HeyUGuys that Daniel Radcliffe plays his son in the new sequel, saying “There’s a sequel to Now You See Me and we’re shooting in London. I shoot in December, the whole of December in London, and my son is Harry Potter. I thought it’d be funny, me and Daniel Radcliffe as father and son.”
Lizzy Caplan, Virginia Johnson on Showtime’s Masters of Sex and Agent Lacey in James Franco’s and Seth Rogen’s upcoming action-comedy, The Interview, plays a character named Luna, and Jay Chou, who played Kato in The Green Hornet and is featured on The Interview‘s soundtrack, plays Li.
Returning to the sequel are Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine. Now You See Me 2 is currently slated for a June 10, 2016 release.
The official synopsis currently reads: One year after outwitting the FBI and winning the public’s adulation with their mind-bending spectacles, the Four Horsemen resurface in Now You See Me 2 only to find themselves face to face with a new enemy who enlists them to pull off their most dangerous heist yet.
Not a lot to go off of, but with the promising additions to the cast, there’s reason to hope that Now You See Me 2 will perform better both commercially and critically than 2013’s Now You See Me, scoring a rotten rating of 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $117.7 million at the U.S. box office.
John M. Chu, known for Step Up: 3D and G.I. Joe: Retaliation and the director for Universal Pictures’ upcoming live-action Jem and the Holograms, will direct Now You See Me 2 from the script by Now You See Me writer Ed Solomon and Pete Chiarelli (The Proposal).
