The King of the Monsters is back! San Diego Comic Con was stopping grounds for the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the film during a panel in the famous Hall H.
Franchise favorite characters Mothra, Rodan and three-headed King Gidora all made appearances in the new trailer. The film is a sequel to 2014’s Godzilla and will set up an ultimate battle of the monsters when Godzilla and Kong meet on screen in the near future. Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island bridges the gap between the two Godzilla films.
Some fans weren’t too pleased with the lack of screen time the beloved character received in Gareth Edwards‘ Godzilla film, but this trailer suggests that director Michael Dougherty looks to make up for that. The monsters are running wild and destruction is imminent.
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
The film stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, and Zhang Ziyi and hits theaters May 31, 2019.
