HBO Announces Free Advance Screenings Of ‘His Dark Materials’ At Public Libraries In Philadelphia, San Jose And Santa Monica

Want to be among the first to watch HBO’s new drama series, “His Dark Materials”, an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s award-winning book trilogy of the same name? HBO is hosting free, advance screenings as part of special pop-up events at select public libraries in Philadelphia (10/26), Santa Monica (10/26) and San Jose (11/2), ahead of the series’ HBO debut on MONDAY, NOV 4 at 9 pm ET/PT. Pop-up events are free and open to the public and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Along with a sneak preview of the first episode of HIS DARK MATERIALS, guests can participate in themed scavenger hunts, photo opportunities, and daemon-matching quizzes. Guests who successfully complete the scavenger hunt will receive the newly re-released paperback book, The Golden Compass – the first book of the trilogy – while supplies last. Additional activities at each location vary.

“His Dark Materials” follows Lyra (Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. Other series regulars include: Ruth Wilson (Golden Globe winner for “The Affair”) as Mrs. Coulter, Lin-Manuel Miranda (Tony Award winner for “Hamilton”) as Lee Scoresby, James McAvoy (Golden Globe nominee for “Atonement”) as Lord Asriel, Clarke Peters (HBO’s “The Wire” and “Treme”) as The Master of Jordan College, James Cosmo as Farder Coram and Anne-Marie Duff as Ma Costa, with Will Keen as Father MacPhail and Ariyon Bakare as Lord Boreal.

“His Dark Materials” debuts MONDAY, NOV. 4 at 9 pm ET/PT on HBO NOW®, HBO GO®, HBO On Demand® and partners’ streaming platforms. The series is rated TV-14.
