After much speculation, it has been revealed that Warner Bros. Television, The CW, and Berlanti Productions have revealed that Javicia Leslie has been cast as the new Batwoman. Javicia will make her debut in the iconic cape and cowl when “Batwoman” returns to The CW for its second season in January 2021, airing Sundays at 8:00–9:00 pm ET/PT. With this casting news, it has also been revealed that Javicia will become the first Black actress to portray Batwoman in a live-action television or film production. Javicia Leslie had the following to say regarding the upcoming project, “I am extremely proud to be the first Black actress to play the iconic role of Batwoman on television, and as a bisexual woman, I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.” What we know about Javicia’s role is that Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman. The news has just been revealed that actress Ruby Rose will be leaving The CW’s “Batwoman” series after only one season, forcing the network to recast the leading role for season two, as it has already been renewed by the network. In a statement, Ruby Rose says, “I have made the very difficult decision not to return to “Batwoman” next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.” Other than her released statement both Ruby Rose and the show’s producers have not confirmed the exact reason for Rose’s early exit from the series after only one season, however, it is noted that a source claims that it is not due to the injury that Rose sustained during the filming of season one that nearly left her facing paralysis and needing emergency surgery as some may have suspected.
