Victoria’s Secret Makes A Change To Their “Perfect Body” Ad Campaign

(PCM) The power of the internet has spoken yet again and lingerie retailer Victoria’s Secret has now changed their current “Perfect Body” ad campaign after being hit with a petition and outrage from body image advocates online.

The ad’s for the company’s new bra collection “Body By Victoria” featured the retailers notoriously thin models sporting bras and panties with the text “Perfect Body” splayed across their bare torsos.

The ad sparked up a huge debate online with many people claiming that the ad created negative body image stereotypes and advocated low self-esteem. There was even a Change.org petition created that urged the company to apologize for irresponsible marketing tactics.… Full Story

Walmart In Hot Water For Selling “Fat Girl Costumes”

(PCM) Walmart has stirred up some controversy after several customers noticed that there was a link on the company’s website that was labeled “Fat Girl Costumes” rather than the typical (and socially acceptable “Plus-Sized Costumes”) aimed at online shoppers looking to purchase Halloween costumes.

The incident was first reported by Jezabel.com, when are reader sent in an outraged comment about the harsh labeling. The first Twitter comment directed at the company criticizing the labeling was published back on 10/21 and received what appeared to be some sort of automated reply in response.

As more and more individuals began to chime in and complain to the company, it has become a huge public relations nightmare for Walmart overall.… Full Story

Teen Girl Feels School Is Shaming Girls For Their Bodies After Being Sent Home For Wearing Shorts

(PCM) Lindsey Stocker, a fifteen year old student from Quebec, Cananda, has launched a protest of her high school’s dress code after she was sent home for wearing shorts that school officials deemed to be too short.

Stocker, refused to change out of the shorts and give in to the school’s dress code policy. She decided to instead print out posters that criticized the school’s dress code policy and hang them up throughout the school building with hopes that the school officials would recognize their error in their ways.

The printed signs read “Don’t humiliate her because she’s wearing shorts. It’s hot outside.… Full Story
