Both Mick Garris and Clive Barker have been staples in celluloid for decades. Both have experience in the written page and behind the camera. They are maverick storytellers. And it is in horror they choose to tell the majority of their tales. And as a fan of both men, I was thrilled to hear the news that they could be working together on something. Garris, along with film writer and producer Joe Russo, host a podcast called Post Mortem. On their latest episode of Ask Mick Anything, Garris revealed that he was working with Clive Barker to create a new anthology series. The two have put a treatment together and a philosophical point of view on how to do it. The unnamed anthology series will be made in the UK, according to Garris. Anthology series are very popular right now, so hopefully, the duo can sell the idea to the big wigs. Storytelling is a very compelling art form. The way a story is told on screen is called a screenplay, and one man has had much success with his screenplay’s. David S. Hellraiser was first released in 1987 and was penned and directed by legendary storyteller Clive Barker. The Hellraiser franchise has seen its share of ups, but mostly downs. The last film in the franchise and under the banner of Dimension films (Miramax) was Hellraiser Judgement released in 2018. Bradley Cooper is a globally recognized actor whether he likes it or not. Last year Cooper also made his directorial debut with the blockbuster hit A Star Is Born. The movie received numerous awards including eight nominations at the 91st Academy Awards. It won best original song for Lady Gaga’s song “ Shallow”. Lady Gaga was Cooper’s costar in the film and was also nominated for Best Actress. A Star Is Born was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars but did not win. I bet Sean Penn was really upset about the loss considering he wrote an essay for Deadline about his love for the film back in February. A Star Is Born is a great film, but why would you award a film that has been remade three times? Cooper did show he has directorial chops, but he needs some originality when it comes to a story.
