Taking place in 1962, this marks Del Toro’s second period piece since directing 2013’s Pacific Rim. After the underwhelming audience reaction for his 2015 effort Crimson Peak, the auteur decided to make this film over Pacific Rim: Uprising. Based on the trailer, this seems like it was the right choice.
