“The Interview” Will Open in Select Theaters on Christmas After All!

TheInterview(PCM) Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s comedy The Interview has seen a mountain of controversy since the infamous SONY hack that damaged the reputations of some of the entertainment industry’s biggest players.

The controversy and scandal came to a head after the hackers behind the attack, calling themselves the “Guardians of Peace” and speculated as having ties to North Korea, threatened 9/11 style terrorist attacks on American theaters screening The Interview on its opening day, Christmas.

It only took a few hours for major theater chains to pull the film. Supporting the theaters, SONY issued a statement saying that they stood by the theaters’ decisions but were not going to officially pull The Interview from all theaters.

After almost every theater chain cancelled their scheduled screenings, SONY decided it would be best to scrap the film’s release. The backlash was immediate, with everyone from George Clooney to the POTUS … Read more

This comes on the heels of a threatening message from the hacker group, the Guardians of Peace. The threat promised 9/11 style attacks on theaters that screened The Interview on Christmas day, causing the majority of theaters chains to cancel scheduled screenings of the film.

Fox News confirmed that the FBI suggested on Thursday morning that North Korea has ties to the hacker group, confirming many people’s’ suspicion that the East Asian country is behind the terroristic threat issued on Tuesday.

Theater Chains Pulling “The Interview” After Latest Threat

TheInterview(PCM) After the latest threat from the Guardians of Peace, the hackers behind Sony’s scandalous hacking, several theater chains have decided to pull Seth Rogen and James Franco’s The Interview.

Carmike Cinemas announced on Tuesday that they would not be screening the comedy about an assassination attempt on the leader of North Korea in any of its 238 theaters across 41 states.

Several hours later, Landmark Theaters announced the cancellation of the New York City premiere of The Interview, scheduled for Thursday night in Manhattan at Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema.

The cancellations are due to the Guardians of Peace’s latest threat that, according to Variety, promises a 9/11 style attack on theaters that screen The Interview on the film’s release day, December 25th.

This hasn’t deterred some movie-goers though; many are brushing the threats off and planning on seeing The Interview and attending theaters on Christmas.
