(PCM) Today marks five years since we lost one of the biggest music and pop culture icons of our generation, Michael Jackson.

Jackson died as a result of cardiac arrest on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50 and the world still continues to mourn the loss of this artistic genius. Say what you will about a lot of the controversy that surrounded his personal life, Jackson was a phenomenal musician and his artistic contributions will continue to define his legacy well into the future.

The coroner in the case ruled Jackson’s death a homicide and his personal doctor Conrad Murray was later found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Murray was released from jail last October after serving a two-year sentence.

Fans across the globe continue to enjoy Jackson’s music and there has even recently been previously unreleased material made a available with the album “Xscape” that was released back in May. The album features the single “Love Never Felt So Good” featuring Justin Timberlake.

Tributes to the fallen pop icon have been pouring in all over social media to commemorate the five year anniversary of his death and it further proves that the King of Pop’s spirit is still very much alive and well.
