(PCM) J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm had some fun revealing the names of the new characters in the highly anticipated film “Star Wars VII – The Force Awakens” that were seen in the recently released teaser trailer for the film.
The characters were only seen in the trailer, but their names were not yet revealed. Abrams and Lucasfilm took a unique approach to unveiling the names and released character images modeled to look like Topps trading cards and posted them on social media.
Abrams told the NY Daily News that his reason for releasing the characters names in this fashion is a nod to the original 1977 “Star Wars” film which was promoted by Topps.
The character names revealed were Poe Dameron, Rey and Finn. We were also introduced to the newest villain who is a sith lord named Kylo Ren. News was also revealed that there is a small hint about what is in-store for the film contained on Finn’s card, as it says he is on the run and is number 76, which Abrams revealed to EW.com holds some significance in the upcoming film.
