(PCM) A strange new beauty trend has sprung up on the net with women across the globe dying their armpit hair in bold colors such as blue, green or pink. They are then sharing the results on Instagram with the hashtag #dyedpits.

The new (and kinda gross) trend appears to have started with Seattle hair stylist Roxie Hunt, who has assumed the leadership role in the armpit dying movement and claims that women should embrace their underarm hair rather than try to hide it or shave it off.

She enlisted one of her co-workers at the salon where she works to help her test out the best and safest method dying armpit hair and the co-worker readily agreed to be of assistance. She chose to dye her co-workers armpit hair blue to match the same shade as the hair on her head.

Hunt used a mixture of bleach and 30 volume developer, as she did not want the solution to be too harsh and cause a burning sensation on the sensitive skin in the armpit area. She had her co-worker wipe down her armpit area to be sure there was no deodorant left on the area and then began to spread the color dye mixture on with the color brush.

The trend appears to be picking up a lot of steam as now hundreds of women are posting photos and videos of their dyed armpits on various social media outlets. Many are claiming to find the new trend empowering, as they feel it allows them to break free of the social norm that women are supposed to get rid of or hide their body hair rather than embrace it.

What do you think of this new beauty trend? Would you try dying your armpit hair?
